The President of Angola, João Lourenço, on Saturday, 7 March 2026, conveyed profound consternation and sympathy following a tragic road accident in the Munenga municipality of Cuanza Sul that claimed more than two dozen lives.
In an official message, the Head of State said he was deeply saddened by the news of the incident, which occurred in the early hours of the same day and resulted in the deaths of over 20 people, with numerous others injured. He bowed respectfully before the memory of those who lost their lives, acknowledging the profound pain inflicted on many families.
President Lourenço noted that specialised government agencies are actively working to determine the causes of the accident while ensuring urgent and differentiated care for those wounded. He extended his heartfelt condolences, both personally and on behalf of the Angolan Government, to all families mourning loved ones, and wished a swift recovery for the injured so they could soon return to their families.
The accident, which involved a passenger bus in the Cuanza Sul region, underscores ongoing concerns about road safety in the country and has prompted continued efforts by authorities to investigate its circumstances and provide support to victims.
