AfDB Unveils 2025–2030 Strategy to Support Namibia’s Economic Transformation

The African Development Bank (AfDB) on Wednesday, March 11, launched its Country Strategy Paper for 2025–2030 for Namibia, outlining a range of financing and investment initiatives aimed at supporting the country’s long-term economic transformation.

Under the strategy, the bank plans to provide assistance through sovereign loans and grants, private sector financing, technical assistance, and policy support, while also facilitating public-private partnerships and regional infrastructure projects.

The initiatives are aligned with Namibia’s national development frameworks, including Vision 2030 and the Sixth National Development Plan, which seek to transform the country into a diversified and industrialised economy.

According to the AfDB, the strategy will focus on unlocking opportunities in key sectors such as renewable energy, green hydrogen, agriculture value chains, logistics, and digital infrastructure.

The bank also highlighted prospects in critical minerals, agricultural modernisation, and regional trade, which are expected to drive economic growth and job creation.

In addition, the plan emphasises investments in transport, water, and climate-resilient infrastructure, as Namibia continues to face recurring droughts and water shortages linked to climate change.

The AfDB said its interventions will also strengthen regional integration by supporting cross-border infrastructure projects and trade corridors across southern Africa.
