CAF Declares Morocco’s Atlas Lions winner of AFCON 2025 Cup

The Confederation of African Football’s (CAF) Appeals Board announced on Tuesday that the Senegal national team has been declared to have lost the final of the Africa Cup of Nations “Morocco 2025” by forfeiting, in accordance with Article 84 of the tournament regulations. As a result, Morocco is awarded a 3–0 victory.

This decision came after reviewing the appeal filed by the Royal Moroccan Football Federation regarding the application of Articles 82 and 84 of the continental tournament regulations. The committee concluded by accepting the appeal both in form and substance, and overturning the previous decision issued by CAF’s Disciplinary Committee.

The committee also determined that the conduct of the Senegalese team falls under violations of Articles 82 and 84, and that the Senegalese Football Federation breached Article 82 through the actions of its team. Consequently, Morocco was officially declared the winner following Senegal’s withdrawal from the AFCON final, with all other claims rejected.

In addition, the Appeals Committee issued decisions related to other incidents that occurred during the AFCON final match that opposed host Morocco to Senegal. The suspension of player Ismail Saibari was reduced from two official matches suspension, to one match suspension, and the $100,000 fine was canceled.

The fine imposed on the Moroccan Football Federation regarding the conduct of ball boys was also reduced to $50,000, while maintaining the federation’s responsibility for the behavior.

At the same time, the fine imposed on the Moroccan Federation for entering the VAR review area, amounting to $100,000, was upheld, while the fine related to the laser incident was reduced to $10,000. All other claims related to these incidents were rejected.
