Senegal Challenges AFCON Title Decision at Sports Arbitration Court

Senegal has formally appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport following a decision to strip them of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations title and award it to Morocco.

The Swiss-based Tribunal confirmed on Wednesday, March 25, that the appeal was filed by the Senegalese Football Federation against the Confederation of African Football and the Royal Moroccan Football Federation.

The dispute stems from the AFCON final on January 18, where Senegal defeated Morocco 1-0 after extra time. However, CAF ruled on March 17 that Senegal had breached tournament regulations after players briefly walked off the pitch in protest over a penalty decision.

As a result, CAF overturned the outcome, awarding Morocco a 3-0 victory and the championship. Senegal is now seeking to have that decision annulled and to be reinstated as champions. The Court of Arbitration for Sport has indicated that it will expedite proceedings while ensuring a fair hearing for all parties involved.
