President Returns to Angola After Handing Over OEACP Leadership

Angolan President João Lourenço has returned over the week-end to the country following his participation in the summit of the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OEACP), where he formally concluded Angola’s tenure. And transferred the rotating presidency to Equatorial Guinea’s President, Teodoro Obiang Nguema.

The handover marks the end of Angola’s leadership at the helm of the organization, during which it sought to strengthen coordination, cooperation, and strategic alignment among member States across Africa, the Caribbean and the Pacific.

The summit brought together heads of state and government to deliberate on shared priorities, including trade, economic cooperation and sustainable development, while reflecting on the achievements recorded under Angola’s stewardship.

President Lourenço’s participation also underscored Angola’s commitment to advancing multilateral diplomacy and deepening engagement within the OEACP framework, as member states navigate evolving global and economic challenges. The gathering reaffirmed the organization’s role as a platform for fostering partnerships and collective progress, as it continues to adapt to the demands of an increasingly interconnected world.
