At least 10 soldiers were killed on Sunday, August 9, when terrorists attacked an Army base in San, central Mali, according to security and local sources.
A security source said the camp was temporarily occupied by the attackers, while residents reported hearing loud explosions and sustained exchanges of gunfire during the early hours of the morning. “I can confirm that it was a terrorist attack,” a resident of San told AFP, adding that calm had returned to the area.
An Al Qaeda-linked terrorist group claimed responsibility for the assault. Mali’s military said its forces launched a “vigorous riposte” and had brought the situation “under control”.
