The Algerian regime and its Polisario puppet have suffered another major diplomatic setback over the Sahara as Canada has recognized Morocco’s Autonomy plan as “credible & serious basis for reaching a mutually acceptable solution” to the five-decade long regional conflict.
The new Canadian position comes in a statement issued Tuesday in Ottawa following a telephone conversation held between the two countries’ foreign ministers, Ms. Anita Indira Anand and Nasser Bourita.
Canada has finally come out of its grey comfort zone following the adoption by the UN Security Council of historic resolution 2797 endorsing Morocco’s Autonomy plan under the Kingdom’s sovereignty as the most feasible solution.
Ottawa has aligned its position on the Sahara with that of the international community and the UN Security Council which is expected to take by end of this month pivotal decisions on the MINURSO and the Sahara.
The Council has received recently closed-doors briefings by Head of MINURSO Alexander Ivanko and UN Sahara envoy Staffan de Mistura on the progress of the UN-led political process based on resolution 2797.
