Nearly 20,000 people have been displaced by worsening insecurity and intensified fighting in Sudan’s Blue Nile state, the Geissan Emergency Room said on Sunday, 30 August 2026.
The local relief group said a fresh wave of displacement from the City 12 area in Geissan locality involved residents and civilians who had already been living in shelters. Those affected, including children, women and elderly people, have fled to Shira, Abu Qami, Al-Hilla Al-Qadima, Wad Al-Mahi and shelters in Damazin.
The group warned that displaced families were enduring severe humanitarian conditions, with critical shortages of shelter materials and essential supplies. It called for urgent intervention from local and international relief organizations.
The displacement followed attacks by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and its ally, the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North. On Friday, the RSF said it had captured the Bakori and Sirkam military bases southeast of Damazin.
Sudan’s army and the RSF have been at war since April 2023, leaving tens of thousands dead and displacing about 13 million people, according to UN and international estimates.
