South Africa’s Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources has announced increases in the prices of all fuel products from Wednesday, September 2, 2026. Both 93 and 95 grades of petrol will rise by R1.34 per litre. Diesel containing 0.05% sulphur will increase by R2.93 per litre, while 0.005% sulphur diesel will rise by R3.14.
Wholesale illuminating paraffin will increase by R2.13, while its single maximum national retail price will rise by R2.84. The maximum retail price of liquefied petroleum gas will increase by 69 cents, or 79 cents in the Western Cape.
The department attributed the adjustments to an increase in the average Brent crude oil price from $82.37 to $87.88 during the review period. It cited tensions between the United States and Iran, uncertainty over oil flows through the Strait of Hormuz, higher shipping costs, the Russia-Ukraine conflict and reduced global fuel inventories.
Although the rand strengthened against the US dollar, the gains were insufficient to offset international price pressures. A slate levy of 83.28 cents per litre will also take effect on September 2, 2026, after rising from 61.38 cents.
