President Cyril Ramaphosa has urged South Africans to uphold the constitutional values of equality, dignity and democracy while rejecting violence against women, xenophobia and racism.
In his weekly newsletter following Heritage Day, Ramaphosa said the country’s diverse cultures were a shared heritage that citizens had a responsibility to defend. He condemned the abuse and killing of women, warned against inflammatory statements about foreign nationals, and said migration must be managed within the law.
Ramaphosa also rejected claims of a “white genocide”, arguing that promoting them abroad could discourage investment. He called on South Africans to renew the commitment made in 1994 to build a united country.
