The Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM), the Istiqlal Party, the Socialist Union of Popular Forces (USFP) and the Party of Progress and Socialism (PPS) announced Monday their agreement to form the governing majority supporting Fatima Ezzahra El Mansouri as head of government.
The four parties issued a joint statement in Rabat following two rounds of consultations conducted by El Mansouri, who was designated by King Mohammed VI after the September 23 legislative elections, in which the PAM came first.
The discussions focused on Morocco’s main challenges and the need for a strong and coherent majority able to address citizens’ expectations.
“It has been decided to form a coherent political majority that will produce a strong political government, made up of political components marked by ideological and political proximity, united in, and committed to, a shared reformist vision,” the four parties said in the statement.
“This governmental majority will keep pace with the ambition of His Majesty the King, may God protect him, to build a rising Morocco that moves forward at a single speed, on the basis of consolidating the foundations of democratic construction, good governance, social justice, territorial equity, and strengthening the productive capacities of our national economy,” they said.
The four parties committed to proposing ministerial candidates based on competence, political sense, integrity and probity.
They also stated that the government program will be prepared in the shortest possible time. The next steps will be the finalization of the government lineup and the presentation of its program.
