Morocco and Benin signed, Friday in Rabat, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on land development, urban planning, housing and urban policy.
The MoU, signed during a visit to Morocco by Benin’s Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development, Jose Tonato, is meant to promote exchange of expertise in land use planning, urban planning and architecture.
The agreement, which covers a period of three years, tacitly renewable for a similar period, provides for a transfer of expertise and good practices, exchanges on legislative and operational institutional aspects of spatial planning and sustainable urban and rural development, and the sharing of experiences in the field of urban planning and training.
Morocco and Benin are both facing accelerated urbanization, which requires a response to a number of urgent needs, especially in terms of housing, the fight against various forms of insalubrity and the upgrading of cities.
