A session of the permanent joint commission on cross-border security between Cameroon and Gabon opened Tuesday in Cameroon’s Yaoundé.
Coupled with those of the ad hoc border commission, the three-day session should focus on the mechanisms for regulating human, economic and commercial flows between the two countries that share a land border of some 300 kilometers with sometimes families located on both sides of the said barrier.
The permanent joint commission on cross-border security was established in September 2012 with the aim of allowing nationals of both countries, especially those living in the border area, to be able to travel without needing a passport, but also to combat the phenomenon of poaching.
