Tunisian swimmer Ahmed Hafnaoui wins gold medal at Barcelona

Ahmed Hafnaoui, Tunisia’s Olympic gold winner, bagged Wednesday the gold medal at international de la Sociedad Barcelona.

Olympic 400m freestyle champion raced the 1500m in 15:02:15, blindsiding British Daniel Jervis and Norwegian and Henrik Christianse.

The 20-year gold medalist at Kyoto Olympics, early this year landed three other gold medals at 2023 TYR Pro Swim Series | Knoxville, in the U.S. He clinched the gold 1500m freestyle, 400m freestyle and 800m freestyle.

Hafnaoui revealed himself to the world in 2022 at Tokyo games at the age of 18. He clocked a time of 3:43:36 to win the 400m freestyle final ahead of the Australian Jack McLoughlin and Kieran Smith (USA).

Hafnaoui became the first Tunisian Olympic champion in swimming since Oussama Mellouli had won gold in 1 500m freestyle at the Olympic Games Beijing 2008 and in 10 km open water in London 2012.
