Tunisia to launch Youth Employment Fund

Tunisia’s Premier Najla Bouden has announced the launch of a national Fund for youth employment that seeks to finance economic initiatives for youth empowerment, Webdo Tunisie reports.

Mrs Bouden made the announcement during the UN meeting on labor in Geneva.

The Fund will support entrepreneurship and various employment programs. It will be run by the President’s Office and will be backed by the United Nations, the Prime Minister said.

Tunisia recorded during Q4 last year more than 624,000 unemployed youth while national unemployment rate stood at 15.2 per cent according to the statistics Agency.

The North African country is also struggling with the thorny issue of illegal immigration of its youth to Italy. 10,139 Tunisians, including 498 women reached the coasts of Italy last year.
