Morocco will host African Cup of Nations 2025. After 37 years, the continental competition returns to the Kingdom.
The North African country garnered all the 22 votes to emerge as the AFCON 2025 host coungty, leaving other bidding countries –Zambia, Nigeria-Benin joint application and Algeria with zero votes. Algeria attempted to withdraw its candidacy from the race on the eve of the vote to avoid another continental setback.
The CAF executive committee meeting held in Cairo also designated the host of the 2027 AFCON. Patrice Motsepe, President of the Confederation of African Football, took a deep breath before pulling out ‘Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania’ from the white envelope.
