Morocco has reaffirmed to the UN Secretary General’s Personal Envoy for the Sahara Staffan De Mistura the constants of its position on the Sahara.
This came in a statement released Thursday in Rabat by the Foreign Ministry after talks between Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita and the UN envoy whose visit aims at relaunching the round tables process with the participation of Morocco, Algeria, Mauritania and the Polisario.
The round table process is the only framework defined by Security Council resolutions to reach a realistic, pragmatic, and lasting political solution based on compromise.
During the meeting, Morocco’s foreign ministry recalled that there would be no political process other than the roundtables with the participation of Algeria and that no solution is fathomable apart from the Moroccan autonomy initiative.
Morocco’s foreign ministry also made it clear that no serious process could be launched at a time when the ceasefire is violated on a daily basis by the Polisario militias.
