Marsa Maroc expands to Africa after it won tender to manage 2 terminals at Cotonou port

Morocco’s top port operator, Marsa Maroc, announced that it has been awarded the delegated management of Terminals 1 and 5 at the Port of Cotonou in Benin.

Marsa Maroc has been designated as the awardee of the delegated management contract for Terminals 1 and 5 of the Port of Cotonou in Benin, following an international tender issued by Société Béninoise des Manutentions Portuaires (SOBEMAP), the company in charge of cargo handling in the African country.

A delegated management agreement will be concluded between the two parties as soon as possible, emphasized the Moroccan operator in a statement.

As part of this partnership, SOBEMAP will be assisted by Marsa Maroc for the start-up and handling of operations at the two terminals.

“Marsa Maroc will leverage its expertise and relationships with major international shipping companies to position the Béninese company as an efficient operator that contributes to the development of logistics corridors in the region,” the statement said.

“Marsa Maroc will ensure the operation of the terminals within the stipulated timeframes and in accordance with international standards, and will implement several modernization projects, in line with the vision of the Beninese government,” it added.

The Port of Cotonou handles an average of 80 to 90 commercial vessels per month and accounts for 90% of the country’s international trade.
