Hounded South African beauty queen wins Nigeria contest

Chidimma Adetshina, who faced intense scrutiny over her nationality and withdrew from the Miss South Africa contest, was crowned Miss Universe Nigeria on Saturday August 31, bringing her a new triumph.
The 23-year-old law student, moved to tears, dedicated her win to unity, reflecting on the media storm that had surrounded her. Her participation in Miss South Africa had been questioned due to her Nigerian father and Mozambican mother, sparking an investigation into her eligibility. The probe revealed that while her mother might have committed identity fraud to become a South African national, Adetshina herself was an infant at the time and not involved in the alleged actions.
Following the controversy, Adetshina withdrew from Miss South Africa for her family’s safety. Her story attracted global attention, leading to an invitation from Miss Universe Nigeria. She has now been chosen to represent Nigeria at the Miss Universe competition in November. Her victory has been widely celebrated on social media.
