Angolan economy grew 4.1% on average in the first two quarters

Angola’s GDP grew by an average of 4.1% over the first two quarters of 2024, the Government announced on Thursday November 14, while also committing to launch the National School Meal Plan in 2025 with a budget of 450 billion kwanzas.
Minister of State for Economic Coordination José de Lima Massano, delivering the President’s message to parliament on the proposed 2025 General State Budget (OGE), described the first half of 2024 as “encouraging” for economic growth. He noted that such positive performance, with 4.1% GDP growth, has not been seen in Angola since 2015.
The Angolan parliament is set to discuss the 2025 OGE proposal on November 14. The budget projects revenues and expenses at 34.63 billion kwanzas (about 35 billion euros) and allocates almost half—16.5 billion kwanzas (17 billion euros)—to debt servicing, including 12.45 billion kwanzas for debt repayment.
Massano highlighted that the 2025 budget includes measures to support families and drive economic growth. The government will expand the School Lunch Program by implementing a National School Meal Plan with a 450 billion kwanza (463 million euro) allocation. This plan aims to progressively cover all public elementary schools, including preschool classes, to combat child malnutrition and encourage school attendance.
