“The Kingdom is closely following the accelerated and significant developments in the situation in Syria,” said Nasser Bourita, Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs during a joint press briefing with former Kenyan Prime Minister and candidate for the position of President of the African Union Commission, Raila Amolo Odinga.
The Moroccan foreign minister said that Morocco’s position regarding Syria, in line with the directives of King Mohammed VI, “has always been clear, concerning the preservation of territorial integrity, national sovereignty, and the unity of the Syrian people. This has been and will remain the consistent position of the Kingdom of Morocco.”
Morocco hopes that these developments will bring stability, development, and a better future to Syria, and help the Syrian people realize their aspirations, Bourita said.
He recalled that Morocco had closed its embassy in Damascus and requested the closure of the Syrian embassy in Rabat in 2012, in accordance with Morocco’s position.
“Morocco has always supported non-interference in Syria’s internal affairs, and today, as before, it stands for Syria’s stability, unity, and the aspirations of the Syrian people for progress,” said Nasser Bourita.
