Trade exchange between Morocco and other African countries has risen from MAD 36 billion in 2013 to MAD 52.7 billion in 2023, recording an increase of 45%, Secretary of State in charge of Foreign Trade, Omar Hejira, said.
Speaking at the House of Councillors’ question time, Hejira said that Moroccan exports to African markets reached around MAD 32.7 billion in 2023, recording 100% growth compared to 2013.
This rate far exceeds that of Moroccan exports to other markets, he added, noting that these exports consist mainly of fertilizers, fish, cars, automotive cables, and food products.
As for imports from African countries, they reached around MAD 20 billion in 2023, and are mainly made up of coal, dates, and plastic materials, he added.
Hejira said a study carried out by the Ministry revealed that the Kingdom has additional export capacity of up to MAD 120 billion, of which 10% (MAD 12 billion) would be destined for Africa, adding that this export capacity concerns priority sectors such as the automotive industry, agri-food, textiles and clothing, as well as mechanical industries, covering around 200 products and 1,200 markets.
