The High Commission of Malaysia in Nairobi, Kenya, has confirmed that all 55 Malaysian civilians and 18 Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) officers serving in the United Nations Police (UNPOL) mission in South Sudan are safe.
This assurance comes amid increasing concerns over the deteriorating situation in the country. The Malaysian Foreign Ministry issued a statement on Thursday March 20, affirming that the High Commission remains in regular contact with UNPOL to ensure the continued safety and well-being of the PDRM personnel.
In light of the escalating tensions in South Sudan, the Ministry has advised all Malaysian nationals living in the country to exercise heightened vigilance regarding their safety and security. As a precautionary measure, Wisma Putra has recommended that Malaysians consider relocating to safer areas or voluntarily returning to Malaysia if they feel their safety is at risk. The Ministry also strongly cautioned against any travel to South Sudan until further notice, urging citizens to stay informed and take appropriate actions to safeguard their well-being.
The Malaysian government further encouraged Malaysians currently in South Sudan to register with the High Commission in Nairobi for timely updates and assistance. Additionally, they were urged to comply with local authorities’ instructions to ensure their safety in these uncertain times.
