The Mohammed VI Foundation of African Ulema organized a solidarity initiative on Thursday at the Tofiq Mosque in Addis Ababa to support underprivileged Ethiopians during the holy month of Ramadan.
Initiated in coordination with the Supreme Council of Islamic Affairs of Ethiopia, this solidarity action involved the distribution of food supplies to 1,000 beneficiaries, including elderly individuals and widows of both Muslim and Christian faiths, reflecting the values of tolerance and coexistence advocated by Islam.
Speaking at the ceremony, which was attended by Ethiopia’s Minister Delegate for the Ministry of Peace, Kairedin Tezera, the Foundation’s Financial Director, Othman Skalli Houssaini, stated that this initiative is in line with the High Vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Commander of the Faithful, and President of the Foundation, which seeks to strengthen African values of cooperation, mutual aid, and unity.
This initiative, with its strong social and humanitarian impact, is part of a series of actions organized by the Foundation during this blessed month across its sections in 48 African countries, reflecting its unwavering commitment to fostering a culture of solidarity, Kairedin Tezera said.
For his part, Skalli Houssaini emphasized that this initiative provides an opportunity for Ulema from both countries to meet and enhance their cooperation in serving religion and promoting the values of tolerance and openness advocated by Islam.
He highlighted that these values are essential for maintaining peace and security and achieving prosperity in African societies.
Furthermore, he stressed that the Mohammed VI Foundation of African Ulema will continue to implement its diverse programs with determination to promote Islamic values and unify the efforts of African Ulema in service of the continent’s security, stability, and development.
For her part, Morocco’s Ambassador to Ethiopia and Djibouti, Nezha Alaoui M’hammdi, noted that this solidarity initiative reflects the High Solicitude of His Majesty the King for underprivileged populations in African countries.
She added that this initiative also reinforces the deep religious and cultural ties between the Kingdom and several African nations, including Ethiopia, noting that it is part of the ongoing efforts to strengthen bilateral cooperation.
The President of the Supreme Council of Islamic Affairs of Ethiopia, Sheikh Haji Ibrahim Tufa, expressed his gratitude to His Majesty the King, Commander of the Faithful, for this generous gesture towards underprivileged Ethiopians. He highlighted the positive impact of this initiative on its beneficiaries.
He also underscored the various actions undertaken by the Foundation to promote the values advocated by Islam, recalling, in this regard, the organization by the Foundation’s Ethiopian section of a national competition for the memorization, recitation, and psalmody of the Holy Quran.
