In observance of the 30th World Book Day on April 23, a range of cultural initiatives was organized by the 11th Chinese Peacekeeping Infantry Battalion serving under the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS). Activities including educational visits, book donations, and public reading sessions were conducted across the mission area. Through these efforts, a platform for cultural dialogue was fostered, strengthening connections between Chinese peacekeepers and the local population.
Cultural diplomacy has been prioritized alongside mandated peacekeeping duties and humanitarian outreach since the battalion’s deployment. Traditional Chinese performances, storytelling sessions, and shared reading events have been carried out to promote mutual understanding and goodwill. These initiatives have not only introduced elements of Chinese heritage to local communities but have also created avenues for shared learning and friendship.
By engaging in cultural exchanges, the Chinese peacekeeping unit has contributed to the promotion of peace and social cohesion within the mission zone. Lasting ties have been nurtured through literature and the arts, reaffirming China’s commitment to peacekeeping and people-to-people solidarity. Such efforts are seen as vital in deepening the longstanding bonds between China and the African continent through respectful cultural engagement.
