Morocco Lifts Women’s Futsal AFCON Trophy, King Congratulates the Team for the African title

The Moroccan women’s futsal team won the trophy of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON Morocco-2025) after they defeated their Tanzanian counterpart 3–2 in the final held Wednesday evening at the indoor arena of the Prince Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex in Rabat, in the presence of the President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Patrice Motsepe.

King Mohammed VI congratulated the team for their “brilliant victory” in the Futsal AFCON (Morocco 2025), and for clinching “this African title, which further strengthens the ongoing development of women’s football in our country.”

“I take great pride in the fact that your promising team had the honor of winning the first edition of this African championship, hosted successfully by our country, and that you also secured qualification for the first-ever Women’s Futsal World Cup, scheduled towards the end of this year in the Philippines,” the Monarch said in a message of congratulations to the team.

The King noted that this unprecedented triumph confirms the prominent place now held by Moroccan female players, who are strongly determined to continue achieving honorable results for national football and to make their mark in sporting events across Africa and the world.

The Monarch, who applauded the high-level performance and deep patriotic spirit demonstrated by the national team players throughout the tournament, assured them of his high solicitude and benevolence, and expressed his high appreciation for the efforts of all those who contributed to this well-deserved continental achievement, including female players, technical staff, medical and administrative personnel, and officials.

The President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Patrice Motsepe, attended the exhilarating game.
Despite playing in front of a packed home crowd, the Moroccan side struggled at the beginning of the game, conceding a goal shortly after kickoff. Tanzania then doubled their lead, capitalizing on the momentum while Morocco pushed forward in search of an equalizer. The Atlas Lionesses pulled one back just seconds before halftime, ending the first half with a 2–1.

In the second half, Morocco created several chances through long-range shots and attacking breakthroughs but failed to convert. The Moroccan fans had to wait until the sixth minute from full time to celebrate the equalizer, reigniting hopes of continental glory.

With just 11 seconds remaining on the clock, Morocco sealed the victory. A precise passing sequence ended with the winning goal, securing a 3–2 triumph and crowning the national side as African champions.

Morocco’s path to the title was marked by dominant performances in the group stage, defeating Namibia 8–1 and Cameroon 7–1, followed by a 5–1 win over Angola in the semifinals.

In the Wednesday match, Morocco’s goals were scored by Doha El Madani (20′), Drissia Korrych (34′), and Jasmine Demraoui (40′), while Anastazia Katunzi (4′) and Jamila Rajabu (16′) netted for Tanzania.

Both finalists of this AFCON have secured participation in the Women’s Futsal World Cup, scheduled to take place in the Philippines from November 27 to December 7, 2025.
