Morocco condemned on Monday the missile attack that targeted the sovereignty and airspace of Qatar. The North African Kingdom also expressed full solidarity with the sisterly Gulf country against any act that could endanger its security or the safety of its citizens.
Iran has launched missiles at a US airbase in Qatar in response to strikes on its nuclear sites on Saturday. Qatar confirms the attack on the US-run Al Udeid base, calling it a “flagrant violation” and says it reserves the right to respond directly.
It adds all the missiles were intercepted, while the Pentagon says there are no reports of US casualties.
Several Arab countries including Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain, and Oman, have also condemned Iran’s missile attack, calling it a blatant violation of international law and a serious threat to regional peace.
According to experts, Iran’s retaliation was clearly a calculated response and the ball is now in President Trump’s court. After the American bombings of Iranian nuclear sites over the weekend, Trump said any retaliation by Iran would be “met by force far greater”.
The U.S. embassy in Qatar has lifted its shelter-in-place order that was put into effect earlier on Monday. The embassy says it will reopen tomorrow and resume consular services “without interruption”.
U.S. President Donald Trump has described Iran’s response as “very weak” and thanked the Iranians for “giving us early notice”. “Iran has officially responded to our Obliteration of their Nuclear Facilities with a very weak response, which we expected, and have very effectively countered,” the US president says on Truth Social.
He says 14 missiles were fired by Iran, 13 of which were “knocked down” and another headed in a “nonthreatening direction”. No Americans were harmed and “hardly any damage was done”, he says. No Qataris were killed or wounded, Trump says.
