Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and his Burkinabe counterpart Karamoko Jean-Marie Traoré have reaffirmed on July 22 their commitment to deepening bilateral collaboration in the fight against terrorism and organised crime, amid growing insecurity in the Sahel and West Africa.
Meeting in Ouagadougou on Tuesday, the two leaders highlighted shared priorities in preserving regional stability and agreed to launch a political consultation mechanism to enhance coordination on regional and global issues. Abdelatty reiterated Egypt’s support for Burkina Faso’s sovereignty and counter-terrorism efforts.
The ministers also co-inaugurated the Egypt–Burkina Faso Business Forum, bringing together 30 leading Egyptian business figures to explore opportunities for economic and development partnerships. In a further show of solidarity, Burkina Faso endorsed Egypt’s candidate, Khaled El-Enany, for the post of UNESCO Director-General, underscoring the continent’s aspiration for greater representation in global institutions. Abdelatty’s visit to Burkina Faso forms part of his broader five-nation West Africa tour, which includes Nigeria, Niger, Mali, and Senegal.
