Senegal and Vietnam Deepen Ties with New Agreements Focused on Agriculture and Diplomacy

On Thursday, July 24, 2025, Vietnamese National Assembly President Tran Thanh Man has concluded a three-day official visit to Senegal, marked by the signing of three bilateral agreements aimed at strengthening diplomatic and economic ties.
During his stay, he held high-level meetings with Senegal’s President, Prime Minister, and National Assembly Speaker, signalling the strategic importance both countries place on the evolving partnership. The agreements, officials say, reflect a shared vision of food sovereignty and mutual development, particularly in the agricultural domain.
In 2023, trade between Senegal and Vietnam surpassed $100 million for the first time, underscoring the growing momentum of bilateral exchanges. Vietnam currently supplies about 10% of Senegal’s rice, while Senegal exports seafood and cashew nuts in significant volumes. Malick Ndiaye, President of Senegal’s National Assembly, noted that the new accords would further enable investment flows and ease mobility between the two nations, positioning agriculture as a cornerstone of future cooperation.
The visit also highlighted knowledge transfer as a key pillar of collaboration. Vietnamese experts have been providing on-site training to Senegalese farmers, while selected Senegalese agricultural practitioners have been sent to Vietnam to enhance their technical expertise. This reciprocal exchange in agricultural science and technology reflects both nations’ commitment to not only trade, but sustainable capacity-building—anchoring a long-term partnership that blends commercial ambition with developmental impact.
