The Ghanaian Government has reinforced security in the Savannah Region with additional police and military personnel following violent clashes between the Brifo and Gonja ethnic groups over a land dispute.
The week-long unrest has claimed nearly 20 lives, left hundreds injured, and displaced more than 1,000 people. Farms, markets, and businesses have been destroyed or abandoned, leaving communities deserted and severely disrupting livelihoods and the local economy.
According to a government statement released on Sunday, the Minister for the Interior is leading a high-level delegation to engage traditional and opinion leaders on measures to end the conflict. President John Dramani Mahama has appealed to both parties to support peace efforts and cooperate with authorities to restore calm and normalcy in the affected areas.
