Seven Killed, 71 Injured in RSF Shelling of El-Fasher, Sudanese Doctors Warn of ‘Genocide’

Seven civilians were killed and 71 others injured after artillery shelling by Sudan’s paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) struck El-Fasher, the capital of North Darfur, on Sunday, August 31, according to local doctors.

The Sudanese Doctors Network condemned the assault as a “massacre,” warning that the situation in the city constitutes “an integrated genocide” marked by bombardment, siege, and deliberate starvation of residents. The group urged urgent international intervention and the opening of safe humanitarian corridors.

The attack follows Thursday’s shelling, which killed 24 people and wounded 55 in a marketplace and residential neighborhoods. El-Fasher, the hub for humanitarian operations in Darfur, has been under RSF siege since May 2024, despite repeated international warnings. The war between the Sudanese army and RSF, ongoing since April 2023, has officially claimed more than 20,000 lives and displaced 14 million people, though independent research suggests the death toll could be as high as 130,000.
