China and Ghana Deepen Strategic Ties

Chinese Premier Li Qiang on Monday, October 13, held talks with Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama in Beijing on the sidelines of the Global Leaders’ Meeting on Women.
Premier Li noted that the elevation of China-Ghana relations to a strategic partnership last year had opened fresh avenues for cooperation. He reaffirmed China’s readiness to work closely with Ghana in promoting high-quality Belt and Road collaboration, expanding trade and investment, and enhancing partnerships in infrastructure, agriculture, fisheries, energy, and cultural exchanges. Li also emphasised the importance of both nations—key members of the Global South—working together to defend multilateralism and global free trade.
President Mahama, for his part, commended China for its successful hosting of the global meeting and expressed appreciation for China’s continued support to Ghana, including its zero-tariff policy for African countries with diplomatic relations with Beijing. Reaffirming Ghana’s commitment to the one-China principle, Mahama pledged to deepen cooperation in trade, infrastructure, energy, agriculture, and mining, while exploring emerging sectors such as the digital economy and artificial intelligence. He further endorsed China’s Global Governance Initiative, underscoring Ghana’s readiness to collaborate in promoting multilateralism and upholding international fairness and justice.
