Egypt, EU Hold First Summit to Deepen Strategic Partnership

President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi joined European Council President Antonio Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in Brussels on Wednesday for the inaugural Egypt-EU Summit, marking a milestone in two decades of cooperation.
During the summit that follows the 2024 upgrade of bilateral relations to a Strategic and Comprehensive Partnership, the EU is expected to announce €75 million package in financial support for Egypt’s economic reforms. Discussions also focus on expanding trade, investment, renewable energy, and digital transformation, alongside regional security issues.

European and Egyptian officials highlighted the growing multidimensional cooperation between both partners, anchored in shared economic and security interests. The EU reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Egypt’s stabilizing role in the Middle East and enhancing collaboration on migration management, social inclusion, and gender equality. Experts say the timing of the summit is crucial, as it aligns with ongoing Mediterranean cooperation efforts under the updated Pact for the Mediterranean, which seeks to promote stability, prosperity, and integration across the region.
