South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, on Sunday, November 30, has assured that the country will continue to participate fully in G20 activities, following recent tensions with the United States, host of next year’s meetings.
Speaking after South Africa’s recent G20 summit, which the U.S. skipped, Ramaphosa dismissed claims by President Donald Trump that South Africa would be excluded next year, calling them baseless and rooted in misinformation, regarding alleged “white genocide” and land confiscation.
Ramaphosa emphasised South Africa’s standing as a founding member of the G20, reiterating the nation’s commitment to constructive engagement. He confirmed that the country has formally handed over the G20 presidency to the United States and expressed South Africa’s willingness to maintain dialogue and strengthen bilateral relations despite the recent discord.
