Ethiopia Unveils Ambitious Digital Transformation Blueprint for 2030

Ethiopia has introduced a new national digital transformation agenda, the Digital Ethiopia 2030 Strategy, designed to accelerate the integration of technology across all sectors of the economy.
Approved over the week-end by the Council of Ministers, the five-year framework aims to strengthen the nation’s technological capabilities, expand essential digital infrastructure, and enhance public service delivery.
The initiative is expected to stimulate economic growth while unlocking fresh socio-economic opportunities—particularly for the country’s rapidly growing youth population.
The new strategy succeeds the Digital Ethiopia 2025 Strategy, which authorities describe as fully accomplished and foundational in shaping Ethiopia’s emerging digital landscape.
Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed noted that the 2030 plan builds on earlier gains by deepening automation and machine-driven systems to modernise government and business operations. The government positions this next phase as a decisive pivot toward a technology-led, knowledge-driven economy poised to compete in an increasingly digital global marketplace.
