South Africa Says It Will Not Rally Nations to Boycott 2026 G20 Summit in Miami

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa on Thursday, 4 December, said the country would not seek to persuade other nations to boycott the 2026 G20 Summit scheduled to take place in Miami, United States. Speaking to the media on the sidelines of Cosatu’s Golf Day at the Johannesburg Golf Club, he stressed that every country should make its own determination on such matters.
Ramaphosa dismissed suggestions that Pretoria was mobilising support for a boycott, noting that South Africa’s role within the G20 continued to be respected globally. He also addressed media reports claiming the United States intended to exclude South Africa from the 2026 summit, stating that no formal written communication had been received to that effect.
He added that the government would only respond once official notification was provided. Ramaphosa reaffirmed that South Africa remained a full member of the G20 and highlighted the country’s recently concluded G20 presidency as widely regarded as successful by international partners.
