Morocco’s unemployment rate eases to 13% in 2025

Morocco’s unemployment rate fell to 13% in 2025, down 0.3 percentage point from a year earlier, the High Planning Commission (HCP) said on Tuesday.

Unemployment dropped in both urban and rural areas, while the total number of unemployed declined by 17,000 to 1.621 million.

Unemployment among women jumped to 20.5%, up 1.1 point, while the rate among men fell to 10.8%. Youth unemployment for those aged 15–24 rose to 37.2%, even as joblessness edged down slightly among older age groups.

Graduates saw their unemployment rate fall to 19.1%, and the rate among people without a diploma eased to 4.7%.

The share of jobseekers who have never worked increased to 52.9%, and those unemployed for at least a year climbed to 64.8%, with the average jobless spell lengthening to 33 months.

Nearly half of the unemployed had previously worked, most of them salaried employees in the services sector, HCP said.
