The Ministry of Livestock in Mauritania has initiated a campaign to curb unregulated animal slaughtering outside authorized abattoirs, in and around Nouakchott, aiming to improve public health, hygiene and animal welfare standards.
The initiative targets informal practices that pose risks to food safety and environmental sanitation, emphasizing enforcement of proper procedures and encouraging compliance with existing regulations. The campaign, which started on Thursday, February 5 is expected to end on February 15th.
Authorities are engaging with local communities and relevant stakeholders to raise awareness about the importance of regulated slaughter practices and to promote adherence to established animal husbandry norms to protect consumers and the broader public.
