Morocco’s Saham to increase stake in global call-centre group

Saham is moving to raise its stake in the global call-centre group formed after Majorel’s merger with Teleperformance in 2023, a deal that made the Moroccan company one of its key shareholders, Le360 reported.

The operation remains subject to standard regulatory approvals, it said.

The global call‑centre group operates across four continents with more than 500,000 employees in nearly 100 countries. It posted €10.2 billion in revenue and €781 million in net profit in 2025.

For Saham, increasing its exposure to the company strengthens its position in the rapidly evolving global services economy, where technological transformation, including AI, is reshaping value chains.

According to Le360, the move fits within the consolidation strategy pursued by Saham’s founder, Moulay Hafid Elalamy, since leaving political life in 2021.

After stepping down from government, Elalamy refocused on his business activities, including acquiring Société Générale’s Moroccan operations to create Saham Bank and expanding his presence in international assets.

He has chaired the board of the global call‑centre group since August 2024, marking a milestone for Moroccan business leaders within major European companies. That same year, he became the first Moroccan appointed to the executive board of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC).

The development reflects a broader shift among Morocco’s large corporate groups, which increasingly pursue global investment strategies rather than limiting expansion to African markets.

This includes taking stakes in multinational companies, building a presence in major financial centres and seeking influence within internationally active firms.
