Niger and Algeria have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations following the second session of their High Joint Commission for Cooperation, which concluded on March 24 after a two-day meeting in Niamey.
The session, opened on Monday by Nigerien Prime Minister Ali Mahaman Lamine Zeine alongside his Algerian counterpart Sifi Ghrieb, resulted in the signing of multiple agreements and memorandums of understanding across key sectors, including health, agriculture, infrastructure, education, energy, and innovation.
Both countries pledged to elevate their partnership to a strategic level, with a strong emphasis on enhanced security collaboration to tackle terrorism, violent extremism, and organised crime. They also committed to advancing trade and economic ties, supported by discussions at a parallel economic forum.
Additionally, the two nations agreed to fast-track major cross-border projects such as the Trans-Saharan Highway, fibre optic networks, and the Trans-Saharan gas pipeline, aimed at driving regional integration and economic growth.
