At least 15 people were killed and 14 others injured across Angola over the past 24 hours following torrential rains that swept through several regions, local media reported on Sunday.
According to reports, 12 fatalities occurred in Benguela Province, while three were recorded in the capital, Luanda. The injured include 10 people in Benguela, one in Huambo, and three in Luanda. Five individuals have also been reported missing, with three in Luanda and two in Benguela.
In Luanda, the downpours flooded approximately 4,180 homes, causing widespread disruption and significant infrastructure damage, including the impact on two electrical substations. Streets were submerged, homes inundated, and environmental damage reported, including fallen trees and overflowing retention basins.
Emergency response teams have been deployed to the hardest-hit municipalities—Mulenvos, Camama, and Cacuaco—where they are assessing damage and providing assistance to affected residents.
