Congo-Brazzaville Prime Minister Resigns Following President Sassou Nguesso’s Swearing-In

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Congo, Anatole Collinet Makosso, has submitted his resignation along with that of his Cabinet to President Denis Sassou Nguesso on Monday, April 20, paving the way for the formation of a new Government. The Presidency confirmed that outgoing ministers will remain in office in a caretaker capacity until a new Administration is appointed.

The resignation follows the swearing-in of President Sassou Nguesso for a fifth term after his re-election in the 15 March 2026 polls, where he secured nearly 95% of the vote. Makosso, appointed in 2021, expressed gratitude for the trust placed in him and affirmed his continued availability to the President.

During his inauguration, President Sassou Nguesso pledged to support efforts aimed at resolving conflicts across Africa. A long-serving leader, he remains one of the continent’s longest-serving heads of state following constitutional changes in 2015 that removed presidential term and age limits.
