Angola and Kenya deepen health partnership with focus on training and innovation

Angola and Kenya on Wednesday strengthened bilateral cooperation in the health sector during talks in Nairobi, with a renewed focus on training, innovation, and building resilient health systems.

The agreement was formalised by the Angolan Health Minister, Sílvia Lutucuta, and her Kenyan counterpart, Aden Bare Duale, reflecting a shared commitment to translate existing accords into tangible outcomes.

Discussions identified priority areas including human resource development, health system financing and organization, primary healthcare strengthening, regulation, and investment in digitalisation and technological innovation. Angolan officials highlighted ongoing reforms, including expanded infrastructure, a 43 per cent increase in health workforce, and a national programme aimed at training 38,000 professionals.

Kenya, for its part, underscored its decentralised and digitally driven health model as a framework for resilient systems, while emphasising the need for practical implementation of previous agreements.

On the sidelines, the Angolan delegation visited the Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral and Research Hospital to observe advancements in oncology, imaging, and specialist training.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to operationalising their memorandum of understanding and advancing African-led solutions through enhanced technical and scientific collaboration.
