Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations Jean-Pierre Lacroix has thanked Morocco for its contribution to UN peacekeeping missions, especially in the Central African Republic and the DR Congo.
During his meeting held Monday in Rabat with Moroccan foreign minister Nasser Bourita, the senior UN official also paid tribute to the Kingdom for its decisive support for peace efforts and multilateralism within the UN.
Morocco contributes to UN Peacekeeping Operations since 1960. The Kingdom is one of the major global contributors to UN peacekeeping missions. The country chairs the UN Peacebuilding Commission (PBC) for the year 2026, and serves as coordinator of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) for Peacekeeping issues. This shows that Morocco is a trusted partner and a key international player in global peace and security.
Lacroix’s visit comes as UN Secretary-General António Guterres has launched a comprehensive reform and modernization project aimed at streamlining UN’s operational & financial structures as well as making the UN a more coherent, cost-effective, and better equipped to take up modern global challenges.
