Tanzania Sets $24bn Budget to Drive Vision 2050 Development Agenda

Tanzania has announced on Wednesday a 62.3 trillion Tanzanian shillings (approximately 24 billion US dollars) budget framework for the 2026/2027 fiscal year, marking the first year of implementing its Development Vision 2050 and a new five-year national development plan.

Finance Minister Khamis Mussa Omar disclosed the budget priorities ahead of its formal presentation in parliament, stating that significant allocations will be directed towards strategic infrastructure and growth-enhancing projects.

Key areas of investment include the construction of the standard gauge railway, expansion of road infrastructure, improvement of water supply systems, energy development, and human capital development initiatives.

The Government plans to mobilize 46.8 trillion shillings in domestic revenue to finance a substantial portion of the budget, reflecting a focus on internal resource mobilization.

According to officials, the fiscal framework is designed to accelerate economic transformation, create employment opportunities, attract investment, and improve overall living standards as the country embarks on a new long-term development trajectory.
