The Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) has praised Uganda for successfully containing its latest Ebola outbreak, citing strong national leadership and coordinated action.
Africa CDC Director-General Jean Kaseya made the remarks after co-chairing a meeting in Kampala with the World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Director for Africa, Mohamed Yakub Janabi, and officials from Uganda’s Ministry of Health.
Kaseya said Uganda’s progress must be safeguarded through sustained preparedness, vigilant disease surveillance and stronger cross-border coordination to prevent further transmission and enhance regional health security.
Uganda officially declared the Ebola outbreak over on 28 July, after discharging its last patient on 16 July following a negative test for the virus.
