Ethiopia and Nigeria seek closer ties through leadership exchange

Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed held talks with Nigerian Vice-President Kashim Shettima on 7 October 2026 during Shettima’s three-day working visit to Ethiopia.

The visit forms part of the Ethiopia–Nigeria leadership exchange, aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation and sharing development experiences.

In a social media post, Abiy said the two countries, among Africa’s most populous and diverse nations, could learn from each other in addressing shared development challenges.

The engagement reflects efforts to deepen strategic ties and harness both countries’ demographic and economic potential to support wider African development.
