A statement from the Egyptian Presidency Monday urged Egyptians to support projects initiated by President al-Sissi instead of spending money on the presentation of condolences following the passing away of his mother, Soad Ibrahim.
After the President started receiving thousands of condolences messages following his mother’s death, the Egyptian presidency issued a statement urging Egyptians to donate to a public fund set up by Sisi to finance development projects and to revive the country’s economy instead of spending money on newspapers and messages of condolences.
The public fund had financed the new Suez Canal inaugurated few days ago. The new waterway is considered as one of the gigantic projects in the history of Egypt and is even likened to the nationalization of the Canal by the late president Jamal Abdel Nasser.
The new Canal is expected to revolutionise the global economy and set the Egyptian ailing economy on new tracks by the creation of millions of jobs.
