Two oil discoveries have been made by Sonatrach (in cooperation with two Asian companies;  China National Offshore Oil Corporation limited (CNOOC) and Thailand public oil company PTTEP The discovery was made in the Berkine basin located in the southern part of the country.
The discovery was made following drilling of the exploration wells of Bou Goufa-1 (BOG-1) and Oglat and El Bachir-1 (OGB-1), in the area of Hassi Bir Rekaiz (Blocks 443a-424a-414ext-415ext).
The first well, Bou Goufa-1,  has a depth of 4050m in the sandstone of El Atchane and it produced 3.62 m3 / h of oil from the tank Ordovician (Sandstone Ouargla) with a head pressure of 206 psi. It also has a charge of 12.38 m3 / h of oil from the Triassic reservoir sandstones Less Argilio with a head pressure of 695 psi.
The second well referred to as OGB-1 needed only a drilling depth of 3915m in sandstone of El Atchane and it produces 3.2 m3 / h of oil from the tank Ordovician (Sandstone Ouargla) with a head pressure of 490 psi.
The tri-party group which comprises of Sonatrach, CNOOC Limited and PTTEP are now getting prepared to analyze and evaluate the two wells in order to determine the necessary developmental projects needed in the Berkine basin.
