Mozambique’s Attorney General’s Office (PGR) announced the expulsion of a magistrate for receiving money to facilitate the release of an accused in Sofala, in the center of the country.
“The Supreme Judicial Council of the Public Prosecutor’s Office (…) decided to apply the penalty of expulsion to a magistrate of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, with the category of Public Prosecutor 3rd”, said the PGR, in a note sent on Saturday to the media.
According to the document, the magistrate “used his functions” to “request and receive monetary values to facilitate the release of an accused prisoner, indicted for the crime of manslaughter”. The magistrate was assigned to the Sofala Provincial Prosecutor’s Office and, according to the authorities, the sanction results from “violation of professional duties and principles.’’
